American Hemochromatosis Society was saddened to learn of the death
of Mayo Clinic hemochromatosis expert, Dr. David Brandhagen.

-- A
funeral Mass for Dr. David Jon Brandhagen, 41, of Rochester , will
be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church
with the Rev. Msgr. Gerald A. Mahon officiating. Burial will be
in Oakwood Cemetery.
Dr.
Brandhagen died Friday (July 22, 2005) of injuries suffered in an
auto accident. He was born Sept. 29, 1963, in Milwaukee . He was
reared in Rochester and graduated from Mayo High School in 1982.
He earned a bachelor's degree, graduating summa cum laude, from
St. John's University in Collegeville , Minn. , in 1986; he completed
his medical degree at Mayo Medical School in 1990. He completed
his residency in internal medicine and chief residency in Hennepin
County Medical Center in Minneapolis from 1990 to 1994. He married
Jane Marchek on July 22, 1989, in St. Paul . He was a consultant
for the division of gastroenterology and hepatology at Mayo Clinic
and had been an associate professor medicine since 1997. His research
interests included diseases of iron overload and liver transplantation.
He belonged to the American Association for study of liver diseases,
American Gastroenterology Association, American Society of Transplantation.
He was a member of St. John church and coached youth baseball and
basketball. He enjoyed family leisure time, softball and running.
Surviving
are his wife; two children, Kristen and Mitchell, both at home;
his parents, Jon and Joan Brandhagen of Rochester; and a brother,
Robert of Baraboo, Wisconsin.
