What is Forskolin?

Forskolin is extracted from the roots of Coleus Forskohlii, which is a tropical herbal plant native to Indian. It is a mint-like plant whose extracts are known to have medicinal properties. Forskolin is used as an ingredient in many weight loss proprietary blends. The Forskolin weight loss supplement has Forskolin has is the primary ingredient. That means that it is the only active ingredient in the supplement.

Forskolin has featured in the Dr OZ show a couple of times now. It first featured in the show in 2014 and it has gained a lot of popularity and traction since then.

In the sections below, we are going to explore how Forskolin works in your body. We’ll delve deep in trying to find out whether it can help with weight loss, and whether it has any health benefits. Its manufacturers can make all sorts of claims about it, but we cannot just take their word for it.

Does Forskolin Help With Weight Loss?

Answering this question requires that we explore several experiments that have been done on it. We will highlight some testimonials from some of the people who have used Forskolin before.

Before we get there, here is what we know has been proven about Forskolin.

Forskolin stimulates the burning of stored fat. It causes fat cells to release fat deposits, which are then used up by the body to produce energy.

To some extent, this can help you lose some weight. How effective is it though? Can your body fully depend on this action to lose weight? Definitely not!

Fat cell stimulation is just the beginning of the process of losing weight. We haven’t found evidence that Forskolin can do any of the following;

  • Promoting metabolism and respiration
  • Appetite suppression
  • Suppressing digestion

These three actions are important if any supplement is to help you lose weight. They cause a calorie deficit and allows your body to consume fat deposits.

A majority of the studies done on Forskolin have been done on animals. In all of them, Forskolin causes the animals to lose some weight. While that is a good indicator, it does not imply that the same thing would apply to humans.

We found two clinical studies that have investigated the effect of Forskolin in humans.

We summarized them below.

Can You Use Forskolin for Weight Loss?

The two studies that we found involve lab controlled trails.

One study has 30 volunteers. The volunteers were overweight and obese men who were seeking to lose weight. The men were randomly categorized into two groups of 15 each. One group were given 25 mg of Forskolin two times a day for 12 weeks.

The other group was given dummy pills. For the same period.

The results showed that the group that took Forskolin lost a notable amount of fat, but their body weight measure did not reduce. It was also noted that their testosterone levels improved. Testosterone can enhance the fat burning process for men. It puts them in a better position to burn fat, and build some lean muscle.

In the other study, 23 men volunteered to take 500 mg of Coleus Forskohlii per day for up to 12 weeks. The results showed that Forskolin did not help with weight loss, but there was an indication that it could protect them from weight gain.

The bottom line is; we did not find any significant evidence that Forskolin can cause you to lose weight. However, based on the discussion above we have some level of confidence that someone taking Forskolin is in a better position to lose weight as compared to someone who doesn’t.

We always advise that you should never depend entirely on any supplement. Losing weight is a result of several processes. There is a chance that if you combine Forskolin with a proper exercise routine, you will start losing weight.

Here are some testimonials from some of the people who have had a chance to use Forskolin.

Vickie Says;

When I started using Forskolin I had not read too much about it. I had just found out that it could help me lose weight. And it did. Honestly, if I cared to find out too much about Forskolin I most likely would not have spent money one it. All the same, I did and it delivered value for my money.

I have been using Forskolin for the past four months. I run every morning and go to yoga classes every evening. I have been losing weight consistently for the past three months. To me losing weight consistently is important for me than losing a lot of weight at once. You are less likely to regain when you lose it gradually and consistently as compared to when you lose a lot of weight at once.

David Says;

Forskolin, for me, is a weight loss that sits on the fence. I have registered weight loss while using the supplement, but it does not provide the boost you get from other supplements. I tried other weight loss supplements, and most always give you an energy boost. You can even feel the difference while you are working out. That’s not the case with Forskolin though.

I would not want to paint it as an ineffective weight loss supplement though. It has helped me lose weight in the course of my workouts. I’ve been using it for six months, and plan to keep using it so long as I keep getting the results I want to get.

Maurice Says;

Forskolin is a gentle weight loss supplement. I had used quite many weight loss supplements before I bumped onto. Forskolin. I hate the fact that one had to grapple with harsh side effects from supplement so that they can lose weight. At times, I felt like I was high on a drug. Forskolin solved that problem for me.

I’ve been using Forskolin for three of the eight months I have been trying to lose weight. I am not losing as much as I was losing with other supplements, but at least I don’t have to deal with any harsh reactions. Also, I’ve been losing two or three pounds consistently, which is good enough for me.

Like many people who have used Forskolin before, we remain on the fence about its ability to help you lose weight.

There is something to smile about though. Forskolin has some proven health benefits.

Forskolin’s Health Benefits

Coleus Forskohlii is been part of Indian herbal medicine since time immemorial. It is used to treat health conditions such as asthma, heart disease, constipation, and bronchitis.

Other health benefits include;

  • Improved breathing system
  • Lowered risk of osteoporosis
  • Improved testosterone levels
  • Enhanced bone density

In light of these benefits, it would be safe to say that Forskolin is worth the money it costs. Even if it does not help you lose weight, it will improve your health in one way or the other.

Does Forskolin Have Side Effects?

One of the testimonials we have outlined above implied that Forskolin does not have any major side effects.

We did not find any reasons to believe it has any either.

Even then, we always advise that you seek the opinion of a doctor before you start taking any supplement, especially if you are taking any medication or you have an underlying health condition.

Beware of allergies as well. You could be allergic to Forskolin. You should first test your body’s tolerance to Forskolin with small dosages before you start using it.

Forskolin can be used by both men and women, although it has more benefits for men since it boosts testosterone levels.

Forskolin should not be sold to or taken by children under the age of 18 years.

Pregnant and nursing women should not take the supplement as well. Women trying to get pregnant should not take it as well.

How Should You Take Forskolin?

Getting the dosages right is important for every supplement. The manufacturers recommend that you two capsules per day. Forskolin can be taken at any time, and with food or drinks. You should take the capsule with a lot of water.

Always remember that there is no magical supplement that cuts your weight overnight and on its own. You have to maintain a healthy diet and keep working out. You must cut your calorie intake if you want Forskolin to help you lose weight.

Where Can You Buy Forskolin?

Forskolin is available on the manufacturer’s official website. Buying from the official website helps you avoid fakes and imitations. Forskolin is available in many other online stores. You may not enjoy discounts and guarantees when you buy from the other stores though.

How much is it going to cost you?

One bottle of Forskolin has 60 capsules. One bottle currently goes for $44.99 on the official website. You get free and fast shipping regardless of where you are. You’ll most likely not get free shipping if you buy from somewhere else.

The official website has offers and discounts running from time to time. The price is, therefore, subject to change now and then. Here are the current offers/discounts.

  • Buy two bottles for $89.99 and get one free
  • Buy three bottles for $134.99 and get three bottles free

You can save a considerable amount of money by buying many bottles. There is no harm in going for a three-month supply.

Based on our research, Forskolin is not expensive. Understandably, it is not a complete weight loss supplement per se. There is no guarantee that it will work for you. If you are skeptical about it, you could try it out with a single bottle.

Here is a summary of the pros and cons of Forskolin

  • It activates fat cells and puts you in a better position to lose weight
  • It strengthens your bone structure
  • It reduces your chances of getting a heart attack
  • It boosts testosterone

  • It is biased. It has more benefits for men than women.

Is Forskolin a Supplement You Should Try?

At this juncture, you should be able to decide whether you would want to use Forskolin. We think it is worth a try, especially if you are wary of side effects, but we cannot make that decision for you.

We are confident that Forskolin is worth the money it costs. Even if you do not lose weight, you will get some health benefits. It is also pocket-friendly.
